After the events of Episode 3, the Combine are reducing ever lesser in numbers, from legions of troops to mere platoons or squads of stragglers. The weapons of the Universal Union began to wear and fall apart, and the engineers left amongst the remains of the forces devised new weapons: Cheap, Easily Obtainable, and easily converted firearms are whats procured for the everlasting war effort. Be it home-brew bolt actions, or rechambered submachine guns, they obtained it. No model or serial numbers are given to these offshoot designs, by their nature of being easily expendable and hard to reclaim. Some even have built-in destruction systems operated by dead-men switches. Others don't bother to even waste the materials to make that, and are easily found in the resistance.
