AOD (4) Road to Kharkov

描述
A modified version of the original Road to Kharkov. This map only works with the official AOD mod, you can find a link to download the mod below.

For those unfamiliar with the mod, you must defeat several waves of enemy units who move along a set path. Kill them before they reach the end of the road or you will lose.

For experienced AOD players I have removed all 'special events', there are no sneak attacks or air raids for this map. I have instead focused on beefing up the units you will face. There are two distinct phases so I recommend co-ordinating a balance of anti-infantry and anti-tank between players.

Raising the difficulty affects the following properties:
- Starting Resources
- Income rate
- Suppression-modifiers, unit speed & veterancy
- Enemies shoot back!

Maybe put some US trucks and ambulances into Wave 2 and 3 to make it more interesting, but really I only found the game "started" from Wave 4.

Sorry to be harsh, but it was a real snooze up until Wave 4, and nothing got more than halfway until Wave 5! Definitely turn down the "build" time for players. And there's so much room for players to build big emplacements, which also makes it a bit easier. I had about 10 UK AT guns stacked on the northern corner, and on the final wave all of the firing Vet 3 only did maybe 1/10 damage to the final boss tanks! So perhaps they're a little TOO hard, a lot of them got through.

I think you could put in a few AI harassment units, and even a light artillery barrage or two or some smoke drops. They do make it more interesting (just not when they're too over the top and constant)

Also meme-vehicle waves like lots of Kubels or M20s is always fun :)

Hey Plasman!

Firstly thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. I'm already at work on a new AOD original map so hoping to take the knowledge I learnt from modifying Kharkov and pouring it into an original design. (I dont like overly complicated or clutter either so thats my goal.)

Thanks for your thoughts on the waves, I did all my testing on Hard and scaled the resources linearly, it looks like that left standard a little underwhelming. I will be playing a few more times with my squad this weekend so I'll jump in and make some significant changes.

I'm not sure how to disable mines on the road so I'll get in touch with the creator to figure out where that setting is.

If you do play it again send me screenshot of your defense layout, I like to see how different people approach AOD!

Wave 5 - Hmmmm, elite infantry... feels less satisfying to have bulletproof enemy squads, would feel better to have more numerous enemy, with medium damage resist.

Armour waves - Overall quite easy, except the final boss tigers at the very end. More light and medium vehicles in higher numbers would make it more interesting in the early armour waves.

Also allowing mines all over the path is OP, maybe only allow them on the second half of the path.

Wave 4 - COmmandos is a fun idea, but they seem to suppress quite easily to 3MGs.

My initial thoughts, on Standard - Way too slow to start, 60 seconds is too much between waves. First two waves should be simple but Wave 3 was just a snore... Also why are 1 and 2 bases so close to the lanes? Annoying to get buildings attacked.
