描述
Edits the bearing overlay to make the bearing markers thinner and more evenly spaced. Calibrated to the bearing reset button.

Savegame compatible.
Updated for B129HF3. Will be 3 degrees misaligned if used on previous versions. Not tested on versions before B129HF2, compatibility is unknown.

Yeah thanks for the reply, I didnt think it was possible, unless the devs wanted that way. However, tracking a target at night and attacking at the hint of daylight is still tried and true. Thanks again.

@Don D Dwain That unfortunately sounds very outside my wheelhouse. The illumination has a workaround, but I don't want to make it for vanilla textures to avoid any potential copyright issues, as it requires a texture to have reduced opacity. My periscope mods, however, have the fix applied - since they are my original textures.

I am sure this can not be done, however if it is possible, then please knock our lights out. The bearing ring above the attack periscope does not turn, and is not oriented to the relative bearing of 0 to the front of the boat, however if an idex line indicating the Relative bearing of 0 facing the front of the boat, with a ring that could be viewed by pressing "N" for free camera, the need to brighten the bearing tape is no longer needed. But I have doubts that this could be done, I know that the observation bearing ring does turn, but no index line. In short an index line and a correct bearing ring would very likely work for night ops. Thanks for your time.

I can't get to work. In fact I can't get the "Custom Illumination" mod to work with the newest patch. As soon as I try to access periscope, binoculars or UZO the game freezes until I zoom out with the mouse wheel.
Would really love to have a mod that illuminates the bearing markers at night. The UZO and scopes are almost impossible to make out.

I figured out a solution to get the graticle and the bearing markers to the same nighttime illumination value. https://i.imgur.com/kK74FwW.jpeg In short, the periscope illumination graticles just need to be at 40% opacity instead of 100% to match the illumination of the bearing indicator. That's far far too dark, but thanks to DarkRaven's other mod, Custom Illumination, you can then just multiply the vanilla values by 2.5x to get them back to where they were. The bearing indicator in that screenshot is using my custom bearing marker mod that I'll release after a little more polishing -- I wanted the single digits and the accuracy adjustment DarkRaven made but without making everything much smaller than vanilla.

@Tofof Would if I could.

The illuminated bearing texture is generated by the game, there is no way to make a custom one. The patch that added light propagation (2025.1P5?) added a darkening mask to simulate the light propagation. AFAIK the shader layers the various textures and post processing effects similar to Photoshop. Regular textures (and the generated bearing illumination) are behind the darkening light propagation layer which is behind illuminated scope textures among other effects. I have no knowledge or ability to modify the shader.

Only way I know to mitigate that is to use the scope with the lightest light propagation mask aka the Observation Scope.

The bearings are not visible at night. Please make them brighter.

I would like to get the bearing marks illuminated. Is there a simple way to do this by locally modding this mod (or e.g. custom illumination)?

I am using this mod, Custom Illumination, and More Accurate Scope Wide. Since this one is the one most directly responsible for the bearings I figured it was the best place to have this discussion.

I see other users have recently complained about the dark markings in these comments and in the comments on Custom Illumination. It's true that the angular marks in the scopes weren't illuminated (AFAIK), but the *BEARING* indicator definitely was -- it worked completely unlike the marks inside the lens of the scope. Instead, it was a prism system that was just reflecting a view of the azimuth ring(s) where the scope meets the ceiling. It would therefore always be illuminated, at least as long as the interior of the sub wasn't pitch black.

See my discussion topic for more detail.

Is this mod working with patch 23?
