MGB residential building, Moscow. RICO

The former residential building for MGB workers (Ministry of State Security, later the KGB) is perhaps one of the most pompous post-war houses in Moscow. He is famous not only for his architecture, but also for his complicated history. The architect Yevgeny Rybitsky was awarded the Stalin Prize for the project of the house in 1949, however, already in 1952, due to the expressive decor and high cost, the house began to be criticized, and in 1955 Rybitsky was deprived of the award "for excesses in design". In addition, the MGB officers who settled in this house, who had connections with the repressed L.P. Beria, were deprived of their posts and luxury apartments, later converted into communal housing.
