KiwiRail NR 117

KiwiRail is the state-owned company that operates the rail network in New Zealand. It was created in July 2008, when the railways were re-nationalised (having spent the previous 15 years under private ownership).

The KR livery consisted of yellow, grey and red. Since 2009, the vast majority of engines in KiwiRail's fleet have received the livery. By far the most common variant is what you see on this NR re-skin; vertical separation of grey and red. The early version of the livery - which had horizontal separation of grey and red - was only carried by 7 locomotives (one DC, one DFT and five DX's).

As with all my previous NR re-skins, the number on this one is also the number of a real-life NR locomotive.
