Škoda 14Tr Trolleybus

描述
Škoda 14Tr trolleybus in factory livery. Iconic Czech-built trolleybus, massively produced for USSR and Eatern Block countries from 1980, and from 1990 till 2004 was sold worldwide. Was built in Ostrov (Czech Rep.) and Vologda (Russia). Nowdays runs in Czech Rep., Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Hungary and Bulgaria. Modified version of this trolley works in USA (San Francisco and Dayton cities). Used to run in Kazakhstan, GDR, Armenia, Georgia, China and Latvia. This vehicle is widely used in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and became one of the city symbols — travel I've made there inspired me to work on this model.

yep, it is Ikarus 260 in Soviet yellow livery meaning it was delivered directelly to USSR, so it is extremely old one.
In Russia, Urkaine and Belarus you can also find such busses in other liveries, that is re-exported vehicles from other Europe countries. In Russia there were also white-blue or white-red liveries, wich mean that bus was inported in Russia after USSR collapsed. Also Ikarus 280 model was produced by license in Moscow, and these vehicles had green and cream livery. All them are gone, though, and these buses are extremely rare now, but I still love them

Yes, Wellington was the world's southernmost trolleybus system... As I get it, the problem was that the system is too far from the nearest trolleybus manufacturer, and it cost the island nation too much to maintain. But I still think it's a mistake, and it's kind of strange for such an environmentally concerned society as New Zealand. Interestingly, the northernmost trolleybus in the world, Arkhangelsk, also stopped working, but much earlier. By the way, Škodas 14tr also worked there.

Btw right now Budapest is getting rid of legendary Ikarus buses, it was the last year of operation for 2** and 4** models there.

It is quite sad to see trolleybus systems vanishing usually because of long time under-maintenance and then having all these problems cumulated facing big investments or closure - so they often go with the second. Like Wellington just recently. Fortunately my favourite spa town Mariánské Lázně handled the same quite well in 2015+ thanks to the town elections where a party with brain succeeded and started investing into the network for a change.

Aw damn that's cool as well, Vilnius just got rid of theirs silently in 2018 I think. It's a shame because the articulated B841 was my favourite bus, hopefully they won't do that so hastily with the 14-Tr

I hope Vilnius will have something similar to celebrate their service, Kaunas had a very cool idea

When the city of Kaunas ( second largest trolleybus system in Lithuania ) started removing the Škodas from service, we painted the Škodas in varios paintjobs, some random, while others we're city symbols : For example this trolleybuses painted the same way that are the walls of a famous cafe - Spurginė http://gyvossienos.kaunas.lt/wp-content/uploads/sites/44/2019/07/troleibusas-17.jpg The škodas were replaced by Solaris Trollino 12 ( this happened in 2020 smth )

As a person living right next to a trolleybus line, they're much better than normal buses, bcs they're cleaner, quiter ( even quiter to battery buses because of the noise of the weight caused by the heavy batteries )
