One of the fastest tank designs to go into production during World War II, the 76mm Gun Motor Carraige M18 (M18 GMC) also known as the M18 Hellcat. It was the pinnacle of American tank destroyers; lightly armoured, highly mobile tanks with a powerful cannon mounted inside a turret. With its speed and size, it became the most effective U.S. tank destroyer in its role. From the mid 1943 to the end of the war, around 2 507 M18 tank destroyers were produced, seeing action in not only the Western front, but also the Pacific theatre.
