Betelgeuse Class Cruiser

The Betelgeuse class cruiser (sometimes refered as the Betel class) is the latest of a series of experimental spherical ships, based on the concept that spheres are the shape with the highest volume for any given surface. Indeed, for its weight of 3.4 million kilos, the Betelgeuse class has spacious acomodations, a large bridge, large hangar,and enormous fuel reserves, whilst maintaining a heavily armoured prow.
The ship features a equatorial ring used to mount manouvering thrusters and weapons. The only airlock is located in the underside of the ship (its recomended you use ion thrust and low speeds while docking)
The decks of the cruiser are arranged perpendiculary to the main thrust and direction of travel in space. There are a total of 4 decks:

-1st deck: Lower engineering. Acess to the bottom airlock.
-2nd deck: Main hangar bay, torpedo launchers.
-3rd deck: Bridge, fuel storage, main engineering.
-4rd deck: Medical bay and crew acomodations.

All the decks are connected via a set of 4 stairwells. A 5th, sacrificial deck exists under the prow as spaced armour, which cannot be accesed normally.
The spherical and symmetrical arrangement of the ship provides excellent redundancy. No system can be taken out by a few well placed shots of anything but the most devastating of weapons. Reactors, fuel tanks and jump drives are distributed around the ship, whilst the bridge is located in a heavy armor chamber at the very core of the Betel class.
The vessel has excellent manouvering and aceleration, being fully capable of atmospheric flight. However it is not a good atmospheric warship, and will be at a disadvantage against dedicated atmospheric vessels. If you find yourself in such an encounter, your best option is try to get under the enemy to use your prow (now top) armor to the best of your posibilities.
The spacious hangar can carry between 2-3 fighters or other flight capable vehicles.
If you wish to transport rovers, you will need to build a ramp of some sort, or dig a pit for the ship to land that leaves the hangar deck at ground level.
