to address wabbithunta's ideas:
I will consider making them on their own track type. this would also remove them from stations, however I would argue what you see is in fact realistic.
The poles and size of these is 100% real. these were made from actual PRR plans and the only dimensions that were altered with respect to being useful in the game were the pole base distances to center of track, since TPF uses a certain center measurement.
PRR's electrical system was, and in most cases still is in integral part of the electric power grid. The catenary structure carried not only the wires over the track but also signal power and 132kv power supply lines. This is why the poles are so tall. I even considered adding those wires, but decided it would be more work than it is worth.
Don't over ride game settings, make these an option to be added within the game? I've found these are made the default set when using them in a game. I prefer to have a choice.
Reduce their size, they seem to be huge [and oversized?]
Resolve the issues with stations, they stick through the platform roofs etc.
