Paradise Hotel

Welcome to Paradise Hotel!
This map is a remake of the luxury hotel Sol De Occidente Castle[www.careyes.com] that is located in Mexico. This hotel has been featured in many seasons of the reality show Paradise Hotel both in Norway and other countries.

During the making of this map I actually found that it was a pretty fun map to play deathmatch and armsrace in because of all the possibilities inside the map.

I started making this map in May 2019 and it was coming along well. In June 2019 i had a major data crash that initially made me lose all my raw files, but after some severe data recovery i found a copy of the .vmf file and kept mapping.
The map made beta stage in November of 2019 and has undergone some playtesting.

There are several reasons that I postponed the release until now. Firstly i learned that mapcore had a mapping contest that had a deadline the 1st of February. So i dedicated all my spare time on making my competitive map Fishtown.

The second reason was optimization. This map was a pain to build, and more so to optimize due to it's complex geometry. For those of you that know the Hammer editor know that Hammer prefer you to build on the grid. This is basically impossible when you are making walls with a 32 degree angle that you are going to have a window inside.
This combined with the map being on top of a hill, made the regular PVS optimization hard since all the complex geometry had to be func_detail.

Bottom line is; the map is not greatly optimized, and people that have less powerful computers might struggle when the map gets crowded. Personally I got about 200-350 FPS depending on where on the map im at.

The map also suffers from some abnormalities because of all the complex geometry that Hammer and the Source engine doesn't like. Check out the BUGS thread to see known bugs.

Some of the play testers have asked me about where I found the dimensions i used in the map. The answer to this is that I've taken several reference screenshots from the TV show. I've also used pictures from the hotels own webpage to use as reference. I initially started out making the half-moon platform in front of the pool from the pictures I had. And after that i scaled everything to that half-moon shape. I know that some of my measures are way of, and if some of you have been here, you would quite easy see this. Some of the areas can not be seen in the TV show. For example the kitchen where they make all the food, and the staircase to the cinema room in the basement where they conduct the interviews. Because of this I've had to be creative and just make these places how i think they look in real life.
