Would you believe me if I told you it's not the bushes, or visuals in general, that are the main reason for the lag? :)
Gamecraft is insanely well optimized in that aspect (Maybe even a bit too much imo). It's actually due to the large number of physics calculations happening across the map, both moving parts and 'free floating' objects.
Basically, you'd need better cpu, not gpu.
