Depends on character. But in general each character can work with specific "type", consider diamonds to be more or less fighting style. The more shifted the diamond is, the more specific character will act. You need to decide what you exactly want from each character based on that. I personally think Silica for example - works better as support than attacker.
Example: Would Silica function better with a Supporter, Defender or Attacker Diamond?
@Muxxer, You probably need to praise for one specific type (Offensive / Defensive / Support) actions, till that diamond is maxed out to get suit per type, and last one for all of them (for unlocking previous 3)
@Andy312, Ijelfur is prone to being glitchy from what I know, you might need to defeat him again - simply wait for his quest to reappear, or create a multiplayer lobby with it.
