This is a basic guide to functional sails! This works in both advanced and non advanced mode!
Sails are not a block (yet) but there is a way!

How To Create Them
Build a basic hull that can float and add a tall, 1x1x- row of blocks (you can make it as tall as you like


You then can create a "Mast Boom"
These are where the sails will go

After your hull floats and has a mast, you can add the sails

To make sails, get a "Control Surface" block, any size will do.
Place it under the "Mast Boom" you created

If you are making this into a ship add a few weights on the back because the things make it tilt forward

For turning add a rudder on the back like a normal ship

@Joseph D. Try building them on the bottom of a stick, then deleting the stick :)

I'm making a cargo sail ship and am trying to make a large, vertical wing-sail. I'm looking at the photo. The Small Control Surfaces refuse to snap to each other like normal blocks, and won't allow me to connect them in the Merge Tool. What am I doing wrong?

Ok. I understand trying to do your best with large limitations. I'm still hoping for a proper Sails update. Thanks for showing us this much already.

@Joseph D. Sorry but I'm not sure myself. The ones in the images are just blocks and wedges and they don't function

Can you expand the guide/ show how to make triangular sails? I'd like to recreate non-square rigged boats like the 420, the Opti, and the AC75, but can't figure out triangle sails.
