Gustavo

Gustavo is a very recent character from Thomas The Tank Engine. He is a Brazilian electric locomotive that Thomas met on his travels through South America. Gustavo's debut appearance was in a Season 23 episode called 'The Other Big Engine'. I won't give too many spoilers away, so all I will say is that the episode revolves around Thomas thinking Gustavo is acting like another steam locomotive on Sodor.

I was disappointed to find out that - despite his appearance - Gustavo is not actually based on the General Electric V8. He is actually based on the Milwaukee Road EF-4 class, otherwise known as a 'Little Joe'. At least two of these engines ended up in Brazil after their original intended owner - the Soviet Union - turned them down due to tensions with the US in the 1960's.
