All friendly planes launch ahead of you no matter what. You are the last to leave the carrier.
this means all the AvA in this mission is completed by the AI. missile cruisers are one of the least fun targets to play against and that's all you are left with. not recommended unless you're bored of everything else this game has to offer.
That said, I made a different strategy to the other guy. The main difference is 1) no RTB/reload (since your $100K budget doesn't cover seven cruise missiles ) and 2) very very fast flying. Other than that it's somewhat similar.
In game took 1h, but had to quick save and load a few times, so real time was quite longer.
Now I feel pro !
What I did to success is detailed in the discussion post (too long for a simple comment here). Roughly, only IR and radar missle at first, then get GPS coords, then go back to the carrier and arm with all 7 AGM-89.
