The guy invariably is on an entirely different continent and, by the time I get there, has conquered half of it and was working on the rest. At this point his culture is insurmountable and he is about 2 eras ahead of everyone, with every wonder since the stonehenge.
And he ALWAYS has a different ideology than me.
My most recent game against him I managed to scrounge up enough yields to get pretty close to his level in the late game and I had realized that this had become the cold war, with two superpowers staring each other down, full on east vs west proxy wars against ideological allies, fights over city-states, and a nuclear arms race in the horizon. Only absolutely everyone in the game subscribed to Communism (order with a mod) except for me, and I was just getting everyone mad. Best war I've ever had.
