Based on the Gewehr 98,and using an specially developed 7,92x131.2 mm cartridge,this weapon was developed to be the mobile AT solution of the Polish army during the interwars period.With a reliable action and the power to penetrate lighthly armored vehicles,including light German tanks at about 100 metres (33mm of armor penetration at that distance),this weapon was kept as a secret (stored in crates labelled as "surveilance equipment).
During the German invasion,it was the main infantry carriable anti tank weapon of the Polish army,and after the fall of Poland,they were adopted by the German army as Panzerbüchse 35(p) (the Hungarians and Finns also got their hands on some of the weapons).After 1941,most were given to the Italian army,and named Fucile Controcarro 35(P) where they served for most of the war.Some of them were even captured back by the Germans after the invasion of Italy,and renamed PzB 770 (i)
