B-17G Nine-O-Nine

The B-17 was built in the wake of germany's rearmament when the US realised it had to modernize its obsolete army air corps, The B-17 was intended as a long range bomber that would fly without fighter escorts, and relied upon its many machinegun emplacements to defend itself.

The airplane, first called YB-17 had a rough start, the prototype that boeing intended to win the design contract with crashed, killing the pilot and destroying the plane, this caused boeing to be disqualified for the bomber contract, however the military was still impressed by the plane's initial performance that it placed an order for multiple prototypes.

After the military realised that the Douglas's B-18's were underperforming and too slow to build they placed multiple orders for the B-17 as a heavy bomber, marking the start of many versions of this airplane.


Nine-O-Nine was a Boeing B-17G-30-BO Flying Fortress heavy bomber, of the 323rd Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, that completed 140 combat missions during World War II, believed to be the Eighth Air Force record for most missions, without loss to the crews that flew it.

Its Nose art resembles a revolutionary war soldier on a bomb holding a binocular.

The original Nine-O-Nine was scrapped however, and the Aircraft that crashed on October 2 was a repainted B-17G that was saved from the scrapyard, after it had been used four a couple of years as a test target for nuclear warheads.

This aircraft, operated by the Collings Foundation, crashed at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, on October 2, 2019. killing seven, and injuring the rest of its crew.


Because i know ill get this question: theyre luftwaffe roundels, because steam mods are dumb and cant even distinguish a blurred out KMS flag let alone contextualise killmarks, so you'll have to make do with Luftwaffe roundels.


This airplane features custom sound effects, rotating propellers, smoke effects, retracteable landing gear and taildragging landing

8.2k triangles with all submeshes combined, 1024x1024 textures with texture sharing thanks to LSM.

Package includes both vehicle and ploppable version

Requires Vehicle effects mod and FlipXZ mod.

Why is it a building and not a prop ? because it uses submeshes and props cant have submeshes, and without these submeshes the aircraft would not look nearly as good.
