The game hasnt been updated, why would I update the mod.

It's been a long time, you'd better update it, man.

I started using Nordo's Unit Compilation while using this mod and in two campaigns i started getting a consistent crash during AI turn. After disabling this mod and playing a new campaign, I haven't encountered the issue yet, so I assume this is the cause. I know that it says this wont be compatible with unit mods, but does this issue sound like something this mod would cause?

thanks for the mod ... dont know why ca removed loose formation in the newer total wars ... so stupid

But if it's a mod that just adds new units then would the game still run without crashing, and vanilla units (not ones added by the other mod) still be able to use loose formation?

It edits the vanilla units table so if a unit mod changes vanilla stats it may not work with that.
