EP1 is the first serial passenger six-axis electric locomotive of 25 kV voltage in the history of the Russian electric locomotive industry, produced by the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant (NEVZ). In fact, the EP1 electric locomotive is an updated passenger modification of the VL65 passenger-and-freight electric locomotive, from which it differs by the use of the supporting-frame suspension of traction motors, a reduced gear ratio for increasing speed and the presence of a microprocessor control system. This electric locomotive is presented in corporate colors of Russian Railways
