Robert Whittaker

The current UFC middleweight champion and a former interim champion, injuries have derailed Robert Whittaker right as he has seemingly hit his peak as a fighter. Whittaker first became interim champion on July 8th, 2017 against Yoel Romero and was promoted to full, official champion in December when Georges St-Pierre vacated the championship. Whittaker himself was then sidelined with a staph infection. A rematch with Yoel Romero in July 2018 was his only fight for the year--the split-decision win wound up not being a title defense due to Romero marginally missing weight. His next scheduled defense was scrapped due to a collapsed bowel and hernia. Whittaker has four fight of the night and three performance bonuses to date.
