After a succesful run in Japan, Matt Bloom returned to the WWE as Lord Tensai in 2012. An early dominant run in the spring faded quickly, and Tensai lost nearly every match for the rest of the year.

A brief feud with Brodus Clay led to the two forming a comedy tag team named Tons of Fun. The team disbanded in 2014, and Bloom retired from the ring in order to take on a commentary role in NXT. He took over as the head trainer for NXT in 2015.
