THROAT PUNCH 2022


After a few weeks of phenomenal military performance and strategy by Brazil and political quagmire in the US, the Brazilians suffered a terrible blunder. It is now well known that the Brazilians have spent decades mapping out the Amazon jungle, creating hidden infrastructure in the green giant away from the watchful eyes of satellites and recon aircraft. In the 21st century it was widely believed that overland movement, at least in any major strategic sense, could no longer be achieved in secret; the advent of satellites and modern imagery made it so that no force was too small or stealthy to move about land or ocean surface without detection. Brazil managed to achieve this miraculous feat underneath the canopies of their own country, a rudimentary yet effective method that thwarted billions of dollars in training and ultra-high-tech equipment.
Many of these hidden roads and tunnels in the Amazon led to Brazil's three remaining neighbors, and long before hostilities began, Brazil was able to infiltrate these countries with highly trained special forces, each with different tasks and missions including guerilla warfare, assassination of military and political VIP's and disruption of command and communications systems. The special forces in Venezuela got started almost immediately, breaking powerlines, destroying important pre-war materiel stashes and gathering intel. These commandos recently began operations in Ecuador and have remained dormant in Colombia in case of a general war with them. Through unknown reasons, several special operations groups in Colombia got the go-ahead to commence operations and began sabotaging their targets. One group released a deadly chemical in a crowded mall in the Colombian city of Florencia, and soon the horrible outcome was seen throughout the world's myriad of media outlets. This costly mistake created the effect that military planners and officers in the US were hoping to produce themselves: a nation-wide public outrage at the ferocity and callous nature of the Brazilian military, now laid bare for all to see.
US Senators and Congressmen now had the full backing of their people to go ahead with a declaration of war against Brazil, and this action was completely quickly and aggressively with no hiccup.
Some cooler-heads and conspirators stateside noticed that several sabotage attempts in American and Colombian military bases throughout Colombia were stopped dead in their tracks before they could even get close enough to deal damage. Some of these Brazilian groups were compromised before the terrible gas attack in Valencia, and yet security around major population and metropolitan centers was not increased by either side! The US government, with the help of some patriotic and well-meaning citizens, quickly shut down the terrible idea that the US government would allow such an act of horror on innocent civilians to transpire merely to advance its political and military agenda, and war plans quickly proceeded in earnest.
Even though only a few days have passed since the American declaration of war, local and reserve forces have been quick to mobilize, arm and deploy to the Caribbean. Right now, the first offensive action of the war is about to take place, with the goal of cutting off Brazil's transport, supply and command infrastructure in a chokepoint on the Brazil-Venezuela border. Such an attack could effectively isolate thousands of Brazilian soldiers in a foreign country, with no supply lines, an expansive jungle to their backs and American aircraft ready to bring hellfire overhead...
