Eskion EPD-2 PDVL Battery (Size 4)

First-generation Eskion fighters lacked the punch of most of their modern counterparts, being equipped with plasma pulse cannons as a standard armament. Vector lance technology existed at the time, but early efforts to miniaturize it ran into a series of technical challenges that would take decades to overcome. Scaling the weapon down made it unreliable after several shots at full power, when electrical heat buildup could fuse and short sensitive components.

The early research was not entirely in vain, though. Eskion engineers saw promise in a small, lower-energy "point defense vector lance," which only just packed enough punch to destroy torpedoes and weakly-armored fighters. They decided to mount a pair of these PDVLs on a fast-tracking turret mount to create a pinpoint-accurate point defense weapon that is still in use today.
