MEC 'Mellyi' Cargo Hauler (3-Slot)

The Muthos Engineering Consortium's 'Mellyi' cargo hauler is a step up from the 'Atropilosa' light freighter. Able to mount a single wide-body cargo crate in its midsection, the 'Mellyi' can streamline station-to-station logistics.

-Decent cargo bay for its size
-Extremely cheap to build and operate
-A few small frameworks for internal upgrades

This ship was built to fill a very specific niche - it's essentially an alternative cargo shuttle, meant to be given trade software and looping buy/sell orders. Since cargo shuttles can only carry one item at a time (regardless of volume), the 'Mellyi' is designed for production chains that use low-volume goods. In these situations, one or two 'Mellyi' haulers can handily outpace a full compliment of shuttles doing the same job. It is also hyperspace-capable, allowing it to perform its role between sectors. If the cargo bay of the 'Mellyi' is not up to the job, the larger MEC 'Mellifica' can be used instead.

The ship is named for a species of Malaysian hover wasp, Parischnogaster mellyi, which was an inspiration for its shape.
