Saving Iceland part 3

From the start of 1991 the world watched as the Soviet union started to crumble. During the spring Soviet hardliners took control of the Kremlin and took one last throw of the dice to save the crumbling empire.

On the evening of 24th of May Soviet paratroops (VDV) and Naval infantry landed on Iceland covertly, within hours the US forces stationed at NAS Keflavik had been overrun and the red banner flew over NAS Keflavik.

This incident is the first time in a generation where Soviet and Western forces have become engaged and is now risking an all out war.

In the US, the public are shocked and appalled at an attack on its forces but President Bush aims to play the long game and wait for the Soviet Union to crumble under its own weight which now seems more inevitable than ever

In the UK Prime Minister John Major takes a firmer line on the matter and declares the need for Military intervention. Nato less than supportive of any action against the Soviets but offers no punishment for those who engage the Soviets over the Iceland incident.

Of the several NATO nations promising action against the Soviets the UK is the only member with any assets in the area.
