Luctor et emergo

During our efforts to stop global warming and after a breakthrough in geothermal energy, we had found a limitless source of energy without any ill effects on our environment - or so it seemed. The ever increasing amounts of heat drawn from the Earth cooled the planet's core. Not by much, but enough to cause the Earth to shrink slightly. With the same volume of sea water, but less surface available, sea levels rose dramatically. Land is now a scarce and valuable commodity, making large polder projects like this one a necessary undertaking.

One polder has already been finished and there is a highway, rail, ship and airplane connection to your nearest neighbor.

As this is an artificial island, there are no natural resources available. The soil is highly fertile though.

Two more polders are almost completed, only the last short stretches of the dams need to be constructed. Once that is done, the sea water will slowly drain away on its own. If you want, you can speed up this process by pumping it out.

Please note that if you demolish the highways on top of the dams, the dam underneath disappears. Nothing you can't solve with some landscaping, but something to be aware of.
