Sgt. Slaughter

Sgt. Slaughter started wrestling in the early 70's for the NWA after a military career in which he was a United States Marine and drill instructor.

Slaughter was popular in the WWF in the 80's and early 90's, reaching his peak as a babyface in 1984 as he battled the Iron Sheik. In 1985, he became one of the few real people ever added to the G.I. Joe toy line, which may have caused a dispute leading to Slaughter leaving the company. He began wrestling for the AWA after leaving the WWF, only to return in 1990.

When Slaughter came back in 1990, his gimmick shifted to that of an Iraqi-sympathiser. After Randy Savage struck The Ultimate Warrior with his sceptor at the Royal Rumble in 1991, Slaughter pinned Warrior to capture the WWF Championship. He was challenged by Rumble winner Hulk Hogan for a match at WrestleMania VII, where Slaughter would fall to the American hero Hogan.

Slaughter went back to his babyface, pro-USA ways after feuding with Hogan through SummerSlam, and he mostly retired from the ring in 1992. Since retiring, Slaughter has made multiple appearances for WWF/WWE, including a run as WWF Commissioner. He has worked as a road agent and producer for WWE as well.

Slaughter was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.
