The Great Lakes Region from the western head of Lake Superior, with navigable waterways all the way through the St Lawrence Seaway to the Atlantic.

The region encompassing the Great Lakes is one of the most important economic areas in North America. The Quebec City - Windsor Corridor is home to around half of Canada’s population. The St Lawrence Seaway connects the Atlantic Ocean to crucial ports in Quebec, Ontario, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

This vast landscape stretches as far south-east to include major cities of New York, Providence and Boston. In the north-west, this map encompasses the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul; with Duluth at the head of Lake Superior. Lake Michigan features Chicago, Milwaukee and nearby Green Bay. Sault Ste Marie connects Lake Superior to Lake Huron, which leads shipping through the St Clair River at Sarnia, and down the Detroit River to Lake Erie. Several cities on Erie’s shores include Toledo, Cleveland and Buffalo. The Welland Canal enables ships to travel north into Lake Ontario and reach the ports of Hamilton and Toronto. The St Lawrence River includes Kingston, Montreal, Trois-Rivieres, and Quebec City. Canada’s capital city of Ottawa is also featured on the map.

Additional cities and towns include: Eau Claire, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay, Oshkosh, Madison, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Flint, Erie, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Scranton, Burlington, Hartford and Saguenay.

In the interest of suitable performance on a map of this scale, only the major cities and towns have been placed, with industries placed where other prominent cities would otherwise be located.
