Disciplined Roman legions with formation attack

描述
The goal of WRE/ERE is to restore the glory of Rome, right? Then you would expect real legionaries in late game. Not the faint-hearted who flee as soon as their general dies. And what's more likely, they fought in formation or ran to the enemy as a disorganized loose mob?

We put an end to this shameful display and give the roman legions and Palatina line the disciplined trait and formation attack. An organized attack, that's the Roman spirit.

This mod has an effect on the in-game Legio Comitatensis, Eastern Armoured Legio, Palatina, Protectores Domestici, Armigeri Defensores and Herculiani Serniores. Also on mod-units Winter Desert Legion and Legionay Cohort (made by Ghorza and Bladeuk, the edited versions are in my workshop). The Elite Palatina are not included, since they are shock troops and an orderly formation does not fit their role on the battlefield. Besides, in my other mod they already have the Wedge formation for attack.

This mod works with almost every other mod and is save game compatible. Only group attributes are changed.

Confusing paragraphs
Other mods that bring formation attack in the game also add this automatically to barbarian and eastern units. By using a unique attribute, this mod gives it to Roman units only. This is more historically adequate, although some elite barbarian units used formations (you'll find a few in my mod Roman Formations for more interesting battles). Use this mod with Roman Formations and you have a nice combination of abilities, attributes and formations.

In vanilla, when an attack order is given in Shield Wall formation the unit simply runs to the enemy for a disorderly melee fight. With this mod the unit keeps formation while attacking and fighting. Although there is no direct bonus, less soldiers will get isolated in melee fight. Overall a unit in formation is less vulnerable.

Very confusing paragraphs
Disciplined is a trait (called attribute), the Shield Wall is an ability (but called formation on the forums) and when attacking units can stay in formation (keep organized). 'In formation' is not a real formation, it means that they approach and fight the enemy in an organized way, keep their position.

When you give a unit in Shield Wall formation an attack order they will stay in formation but not in Shield Wall. A game problem and that's why I made this mod.

Why so complicated? Some players want to know what's happening in the game :-)

Reassurance
Don't worry, push the green formation buttons and/or give an attack order and automatically they will stay organized.

Formation attack is for Romans. Barbarians and Eastern Empires fought in a totally different way so I didn't give them formation attack. This mod is for vanilla only.

is there a version of this that gives this to all units and DLC units?

@TheBlackGrouse, after a few custom battles, I did indeed identified and observed the differences. I appreciate you pointing it out.

@Grand Admiral Thrawn, that's good to hear. Yes mods that change the same game files give conflicts often. That's why you have to select and save only the changed parts in a table. However, since I deleted formations I had to use a whole table.

I wouldn't use the Bladeuk mod if you have my Formations/Abilities mod and mod for Formation Attack. The Herculiani are definitely stronger. But instead of simply giving them higher stats, I've changed them with edited formations, abilities and traits. You'll notice it when you bring them on the battlefield.

The mod in question was not compatible with your mod only because combining both together took formation attack and disciplined traits off the Herculiani Seniores. Otherwise, everything is in working order. This is the mod. https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=435511082&searchtext=elite+herculiani

@juicy jon, don't know, I have it from a website about Roman warfare, found the same image somewhere else with a tag 'Rome 2'. Didn't keep the original.

@battlefieldzocker 2000, originally this is for the Roman legionaries and elite swordsmen. Ok, these are elite speartroops but still barbarians. When they have Formation Attack the Cornuti Seniores should have it too. And then you have Barbarian/Eastern elite spearmen (for balance).

The spearmen already have a very strong defense with the Shield Screen (my Formations mod). If you mention a elite swordsunit from a desert kingdom it would be a lot easier :steamhappy:

Could you also add formation attack to the eastern auxilia palatina?

what mod is the screenshot from?
TexanChiss 2019 年 1 月 15 日 上午 10:28
Yes, it was indeed a mod conflict. Thank you.

This unit has formation attack, do you have the latest version? Did you start the game recently? Then it should download this latest version. It is also possible that another mod has changed group attributes.
