Return of the King

描述
Backstory
The survivors have successfully escaped a burning city. Now they are just going to fly over the mountains to finally get some well deserved rest...

But I think there'll be a change of plans.



Background
My first campaign (It was never published) was called "King of the Dead". In the campaign an evil villain called 'King of the Dead' tormented the survivors all the time and sent his army of undead to kill the survivors. The survivors homever, killed him and then escaped. But now the King is back...


Warnings
This map is (probably) not compatible with Santa's Sleigh workshop item nor any other workshop item that modifies the C-130 (the airplane in Dead Air) model.

This addon might have an effect on other campaigns' finale music?


KNOWN BUGS

-Sometimes all survivors get incapacitated after intro (should happen very rarely, might happen if you don't move at all in the C-130, I'm not completely sure what is causing this to happen)

How to Skip the Intro
- Get very close to the button on the airplane
- Press the button for 5 seconds

I made the button timed because I don't want players to accidentally skip the intro.

To open it, you must interact with it (usually by pressing the E key if you have a QWERTY keyboard).

Honestly, after some ferocious googling, I don't think that the console spam has much to do with the lag. I'm not an expert though. Another thing is that, if I remember correctly, extra zombies are also spawned every 30 to 60 seconds(?) after the finale starts, so there should be a bit more commons than that. I don't remember how many are spawned at a time though. I made this map such a looong time ago. And yeah, huge open-area maps aren't exactly the easiest to optimize.

Yea, there's unlimited health item dispenser in the building, so item scarcity shouldn't be a complain... I'll try to check again the map but I highly doubt the lag was caused by high amount of Common since I used to play with z_common_limit 120 with no lag issue. Here's some weird spam in server console log:

12 of this before ~map start:
Floor 1 ('top') of elevator at ( -13953.00, 1162.00, -2393.00 ) has no matching navigation areas

About 49 spamming of these:
UTIL_GetListenServerHost() called from a dedicated server or single-player game.
UTIL_GetListenServerHost() called from a dedicated server or single-player game.
UTIL_GetListenServerHost() called from a dedicated server or single-player game.

and some:
Entity XXX (class 'infected') reported ENTITY_CHANGE_NONE but 'm_nSequence' changed.

Also, now that I'm at it—some people have complained about "the lack of medkits". Come on, seriously? :D

There's literally a dispenser that spawns an UNLIMITED amount of first aid kits, pills and adrenaline. It's not even hidden! :squishysilverkey::health:

As some people have already pointed out, the issue with performance is most likely due to the large number of infected during the finale. I was pretty inexperienced with optimization back when I made this map (6-7 years ago?). My fps used to drop to 30 at worst, though, if I remember correctly (and no, I don't have a NASA supercomputer), unless I was inside the building in the middle. I don’t have any experience running a server for L4D2, so I can only guess, but that would be the first thing I'd suspect. Of course, I also had to make some special arrangements for the intro and outro, but I don't think that stuff would affect anything performance-related.

If you're able to, I’d suggest lowering the "CommonLimit" in the "zombicaust" script to 30 from 60 (30 is actually the default). There still might be too many infected at times, but it should at least help a bit. Not sure if that would make the map dramatically easier, though. :boomer: :gordon:

Got server rate going up and down to 10-20 (normal 60) causing stutter to client, I guess map optimization issue?

I thought that in the situation of lacking first aid kits, defending wave after wave of attacks would inevitably end in successfully evacuating, but it turned out to be just a farce.
