I tried replacing those 3 boxes, 2 armor blocks by the sides,1 free block behind and got decent 1125 units capacity (225 ore) without affecting design too much. Since controller is in the middle, balance wasn't affected as well.
Downside: yellow CEs by the sides are shade brighter then armor. Slightly higher power consumption.
@Fondue That was the goal a small compact easy to build miner. I personally love having multiple builds designed for specific purposes. All in one units are great, but sometimes these single purpose designs are fun as well!
@Bonedog Thanks! I rather enjoy small builds. The challenge is trying to get as much detail and charactor as possible into them.
@andreykl Thanks! I am completly aware of the new cargo system. Do be patient as the Devs are looking into feedback with all of the weight and capacity issues. A rebalance will happen and will make life a bit less stressful on that end.
Note: alpha9 will affect cargo capacity significantly, harvester containers will be expandable multiblocks of 1x1 blocks, but each block will be capable of holding only very limited amount of ore. Hopefully devs will add texturing to cargo clocks a bit later and it won't affect designs too much (just some vessels will be made out of textured cargo blocks instead of armor
