Comedian Andy Kaufman ventured into the world of professional wrestling by declaring himself to be the "Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World" and taking on all female challengers.

Kaufman brought his act to Memphis, where he began a legendary feud with Jerry "The King" Lawler. Kaufman and Lawler's feud appeared to be a shoot on the surface, although it was later revealed to have been a work.
