While building a base with the elevator I changed the location of the “A SB Elevator switchboard” but didn't try to place it inside the cage because I like symmetry in a building and the terminals are similar to a real life elevator panel. But your solution is definitely the easiest way to handle the elevator.
FYI: I moved “A SB Elevator switchboard” into the elevator and it worked great. i can just activate it without using the terminals
