LordGood's Frankish Castle

描述
I've tried modelling Coucy castle since i was like, 15. All the round things and irregularities always messed with my head too much for me to make much headway. Well, I've been 3D modelling for about 10 years now and i finally got skills to surmount this lovely challenge. That donjon was absolutely legendary, too bad the germans blew it to smithereens in 1917. Ah hey we passed the centennial of it's obliteration last year neat.

this is a high medieval castle, the motte and bailey was an early medieval castle prevalent in Charlemagne's time, plan your scenarios accordingly

It feels a bit cramped in the AoE castle footprint but I did what i could. but those spires and hoardings awhh

Non IA

@Seb Also, there is a like button. It's to the bottom left of the big imagine that shows off the castle. The one that says "Rate" with a thumbs up next to it.

@Seb Castles had toilets. Sort of like a bastion where they stick out from the wall so the waste usually fall in the moat. There weren't as many on the castle as there are stains, and I don't see any where the stains are. My best guess is that the OP mistook the hollywood trope of oil being used by the castle defenders for reality. In reality, oil was extremely expensive and not very many places possessed it. So, instead they mostly used heated sand, boiling water, or rocks. Of course, oil was used but it was far less common.

@Dutspice (sorry everyone for triple post)
This is/was common for all castles. Didn't have sewage system like today, y'know?
So u throw shit (metaphorically and literally) out of the window(s).
Stone easily get colouration over time from external sources.

Hope that explains it for you

Sorry I just maximized the picture, it's freaking incredible. Wow. Such a beautiful building and just amazing detail and so obvious a lot of love went into (re)designing this!
This could easily be a model in Company of Heroes or something lol.
Well ironically that's too late (...) but you get the gist

Not gonna use this b/c history freak, but luckily I'm also an aesthetics freak, sadly though there's no "like" button, hence this comment.

Fantastic work!!!

gorgeous model, only problem i have with it is that it is noticeably taller than the standard castles, kinda triggers my ocd :( still gonna use it though, just because it is that good
