Ivan is a Russian diesel shunter who has only appeared in the film The Great Race. He was one of the 14 International Engines in the film, who ended up being the most under-utilised characters in recent Thomas history, despite all the hype that was generated for them.

As I said earlier, Ivan is a Russian diesel shunter. He is based on the TGM-23 class. An Indian diesel named Shankar is also based on the TGM-23. Shankar has appeared in a few episodes of Season 22, alongside a WDM-2 called Noor Jehan and a Nilgiri Mountain Railway X class called Ashima.
