Hide AI Cars and People [FREE GAME MODE]

Note: There is an alternate version of this mod, which hides AI Cars, but does not hide people:

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS IN COMBINATION WITH "Hide Ai Cars". USE ONE OR THE OTHER.

This mod changes the vanilla roads so they do not allow People on the sidewalks. It also changes the vanilla roads so they do not allow AI Cars.

It works for new games you start in FREE GAME mode. (just make sure you enable "Hide AI Cars and People 1.0" before starting the game)

If you already have a save game made in FREE GAME mode, that did not have "Hide AI Cars and People 1.0" enabled when you created that game, you can still get it working, but there are some manual steps involved.

MANUAL STEPS TO GET IT WORKING:

1. Load the save game and add "Hide AI Cars and People 1.0" to the list of mods.

2. After the save game loads in, you will need to use the Road upgrade tool, and go around the map looking for cars and/or people. I recommend starting in the towns, selecting the Upgrade road tool, and selecting another road OF THE SAME SIZE AS THE ROADS YOU WISH TO REMOVE CARS AND PEOPLE FROM.

ie. In my towns I have modern medium width roads, so I replace them with medium country dirt roads with the upgrade tool. Then I select the modern medium width road type from the roads panel, and upgrade the medium country dirt roads back to the modern medium road type. (ie. what they were originally).

3. Repeat step #2 for each road segment containing cars and/or people. You should see the cars and people disappear if they are on the road segment you are upgrading when you upgrade it. I know this is a pain to go through each road with a car on it, but there's no alternative I know of -- and the only thing I haven't tried is documenting the Transport Fever save game format!

4. Once finished, save your game WITH A DIFFERENT FILENAME just in case we discover any bugs with this mod in the near future.

Please add a mod to remove the cars but not the people.
I have always lots of traffic on the streets, but I still want them to transport it with busses and trains etc.

Haha, yes -- I think mountaineering of this nature may require the help of Sir Edmund Hillary, rest his soul.

@c64gamer Many thanks for sparing the time to look into creating the mod, it would have been nice if it were possible, but if it requires you donning mountaineering gear to do it, then I'm sure I can struggle on without it :) Again, many thanks for your efforts Sir.

@Rogg60 (continued) The error message that appears when the game crashes has something to do with the people not being able to find a path to follow along the side of the road, when a road is upgraded to use the "No Cars or People" road of the equivalent type.

So it looks like it may not be possible to disable people as well as cars on specific roads: but it is still possible to disable cars on specific roads.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; being the stubborn individual I am, I still have a few other ideas up my sleeve, but they are far more complex to implement, and bypass the modding system, so for now this appears to be a mountain which is too steep to climb!

@Rogg60 I have created a mod that has a copy of all the vanilla roads, but with "No Cars or People" added to each. The problem I'm dealing with is the pedestrians.

If I try to upgrade an existing road with the "No Cars or People" road, the game crashes.

Likewise, if I try to place a brand new "No Cars or People" roads, then the game also crashes.

The exception is if I only turn off the Cars, but not the people when upgrading a road, or creating a new road with "No Cars" set. That works fine.

@Rogg60 Sure, no problem -- might take a little while, but should make things a bit more flexible compared to this particular mod. Will tell you how it goes. :)

@Rogg60 Ahh, that's a shame -- it's possible to create a variation of my mod which decides whether or not to disable cars and people based on what type of road it is.

As an example, we could duplicate the vanilla road types that come with the game, and rename them to something different. ie. country_new_medium.lua becomes ncp_country_new_medium.lua (and so forth). The preview image in the roads palette for the "ncp" roads could just have the people and car with a cross on them, to differentiate them from regular roads.

Then you could choose any of the "ncp" ("no cars or people") roads to use when creating roads which shouldn't have cars or people. (or upgrade existing roads to the "ncp" type, to remove the cars and people)

Happy to turn it into a mod if you think it'd be useful.

@c64gamer Thanks for the reply, I have tried the mods you mentioned, the traffic filter one doesn't seem to work and the SMP Mod won't stop people. I thought of trying to apply your mod to a single road, but that way lies madness lol.
