Sam

Sam is a Thomas & Friends character that was introduced a few years ago, albeit purely for merchandising. He had a Wooden Railway model made of him, and a book entitled 'Sam & The Great Bell'. He also made a cameo in the film Big World, Big Adventures. Sam is based on the Virginian Railway AG class, a 2-6-6-6 tender engine that is otherwise known as the 'Blue Ridge'.

What I mean by 2-6-6-6 is about to be explained. It means two leading wheels, two sets of six driving wheels and six trailing wheels. Each set of driving wheels is articulated, allowing the locomotive to negotiate sharper curves. The model I've used to make this reskin is Rolling Line's Big Boy, which has a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement.
