I feel like you should up the power generation on those here, to be worth the hassle and cost.
The best solution may be to make the mod configurable, where you can set the research cost and power increase percentage, so every player can adjust that to their playstyle and preferance. Like currently it would be 2500 research cost, and 25% power increase per level. Give the mod two sliders, the one going from 1000-5000 for the research cost, and the other going from 10% to 100% for the power increase per level.
