History:
The kingdoms of Shu was a polity located in the modern province of Sichuan and flourished during the Eastern Zhou period (770-221 BCE). Shu was located around modern Chengdu, Sichuan. The State was not part of the orbit of the power of the kings of Zhou. Unlike the semi-"barbarian" states of Chu (modern Hubei), Wu (modern Jiangsu) and Yue (modern Zhejiang) they did not participate in the political activities of the regional states of the Zhou empire.
Under the rule of the Kai Ming dynasty, Shu became a strong state that was even able to conquer some territory in the border region to the state of Qin in the north. The armies of Shu even attacked the kingdom of Chu in the east. This time of prosperity did not last for long, and the powerful state of Qin was able to take over initiative under King Hui (r. 338-311). In 316 he sent out an army commanded by Sima Cuo and Zhang Yi that annihilated the state of Shu and integrated it into the kingdom of Qin as the commandery of Shujun.
