Venator Class Star Destroyer "Republic Battle Cruiser"

The Venator Class Star Destroyer, more commonly know as a Jedi Cruiser or Republic Battle Cruiser, was the mainstay ship of the Republic's fleet during the Clone Wars. The Venator was a powerful ship, and one could easily handle two or three CIS Dreadnaughts. It had four main hangar bays, two on the sides, one on bottom, and then running the length of the ship on top. The top could split down the middle, releasing the fighters into the fight while providing cover from the main cannons.

This is my second attempt at building a star destroyer, and I must say I am pleased for several reasons. For one it looks great, not as good as my ISD but I think it came out pretty good. Also, I added some GSO cabs in a few places to get the blue lasers coming off the front, looks like the lasers in the movies! But the real reason I like this one is because of a little inspiration I had while building the ISD. The Venator Class has a hangar that runs the length of the ship, and I thought, if only there was a way to replicate that here. Turns out, there is! The hangar on top can open and close! Just press x to deploy. Make sure you're anchored on the ground first, it just won't cooperate in the air. After pressing x, wait about 5 seconds or so and the doors will close. Then right click on the two conveyor belts at the base of the bridge spires to reopen the bay. This doesn't work in the air unfortunately, since you have to be anchored for parts of the design to work. But still, it opens and closes!

The ship inside the hangar is pretty hard to get out, I wouldn't bother unless you really want to. It's mostly there for aesthetics. You could switch it out with a small helicopter or some other small tech with vertical thrust. The fuel capacity on this Destroyer is no where near that of my ISD due to the cramped space, but it's a worthwhile trade for a functioning hangar bay, in my opinion.

The bay doors operate on a tech being pushed by chunks on a conveyor belt. (I got the idea from a tech in the Great Ball Contraption video that was released a while back.) After you press x, a wheel is dropped into a scrapper, then the parts are sent to a filter which singles out a single chunk and sends the rest to a dropper. That chunk is sent underneath one of the doors and begins to move down the belt, pulling the door with it. As long as you remain on the ground, the chunks remain on the belt and you can open/close the doors as many times as you want. Unfortunately once you lift off the chunks tend to break free and fall away from the belt. The ship also has to be anchored before the scrapper will function.
