World of Aselun 2.05

描述
provinces: 195 land and 34 sea
wraparound: horizontal

A map by Alexsa2015sa, base on a fantasy world map, turned into horizontal wraparound map. 195 land + 34 sea provinces.

Version 2.05:
- missing 27-53 connection added,
- Added several magic site provinces at the north, and in the seas.
- lots of no-throne tags on connectivity provinces and most seas. WARNING: there isn't quite enough space to comfortably fit 30 thrones without putting them in the chokepoints or making ugly throne clusters. Stick to 25 at most.

Version 2.04
- there are now 11 fixed throne provinces (old version didn't seem to mention this).
- start position at The Great Marshlands 28 was shifted to Old Krylud Marsh 54 (making C'tis and whatnot a speedbump to everyone moving across continents; not best start but with 6 total neighbours).
- start position at 52, 61, 64, 74, 92, 112, 146, 174 were disabled since they were bad or caused capring conflicts
- enabled start at 149.
- Frostfire Bay 190 is no longer a mountain (more income here, less resources), also nostart (less chance of ~20 uncontested provinces by virtue of starting midway)

The two continents of Aselun were split apart at the dawn of creation. Both have harsh and unhospitable climate, with most people living on the western and eastern plains. Mountain passes and cavern tunnels are common, and many rivers lack any traversable fords to build a bridge upon. The southern marshlands are cold and desolate, with few local inhabitants and lots of diseases afflict them. The oceans of Aselun are nearly devoid of sentinent life, and faraway islands are seldom visited by the reckless sailors.

Attempts to balance the map were made (saildist 1 in particular), but ultimately the map favors sailors (casual mapmove 5-8), flyers (bypass abundant temperature links regardless of everything), all terrain survivals and mountain survival in particular, swimmers and especially amphibians; there's very few plains out there; about 30 swamps and 30 wastelands, 30 farmlands, 40 forests, 60 mountains and border mountains (Ulm 4ever!), and extensive cave system of 30 caves; quite a few provinces share multiple terrain types. Even if you bypass the narrow landbridges or cave system, continents are chock full of chokepoints, although controlling farmlands with their road system may be easier for slow nations than it seems.

Income is not very high because of terrain. Feedback states the map can't really fit more than 10 land and 2 sea nations; plan the game accordingly. Theoretically, map can accomodate 13 land and 3 underwater nations, including two cave nations like Agartha and Xibalba, but that pretty much requires manual start placement; this results in ~20 provinces/player as opposed to regular 12-15. Lots of provinces bring little gold income and those large areas are marked as nostart; due to hex connectivity you nearly always end up in flight range with several or all of your neighbours, and at 11+ some of them will be sharing their capital rings.

I know it's several months after the map was released, but I just wanted to drop by and say that so far this is one of my favorite maps for the game. Top 2, for sure.

Thank you for your hard work!

Yes, the link 16-19 is intentionally mountain pass But I recall seeing a missing land-sea link so I'll update to 2.05 once I get around to fixing it.

Great map! The link between the two sea provinces 16 and 19 is a mountain pass. Bug or feature? ;)
