Agreed. My original design Lazarus Mk. X design had two Drone Bays - one under each wing - but it looked like crap, so I went with just one under the fuselage.
Additional. I too have tried designing a Drone Carrier, so what I usually do is put three Drone Hangars on the front of the fuselage, then put the Engines, Power Plants etc. near the rear with "Wings" in order to add cargo and systems capacity, then I put the bridge above the rear section.
Annoyed. I usually get bored because of how big the build becomes, so I stop about 3/4 of the way through and go back to modifying The Lazarus.

Contrary. Also, I actually designed the Rift Generator to be as close to the bridge as possible, considering that I wanted to have everything - as you said - as symmetrical as possible.
Fair. At this point, it should have enough floor-space to add some ACTRs for automation, Armor Generators, Weapon CPU, etc.
Additional. The current Upgrade Level - the Lazarus Mk. X - has everything - a Cloaking Device, a Drone Bay, almost every weapon available, two Nuclear Reactors, Cargo Containers, and some Swords, Daggers and War Axes for aesthetic effect.
Grateful. Though this was upgraded from this state and this model is by far obsolete, I'm glad you brought that up, and if I weren't using the Lazarus Mk. X as my flagship right now, you'd get to see exactly how far it's been refined.
Agreed. It's only the Mk. II of X, so it's a work in progress, however it was built long before the major Combat Update, etc.
Contrary. This was actually a very painstaking build in normal, non-creative gameplay.
Specification. The Lazarus Mk. I was built off of my original starter ship Lazarus Design (not published), which was designed very similarly except it required only Iron, Steel and Copper, and modified with the addition of mined resources.
Annoyed. It was a gas-guzzler too, so I needed more fuel tanks and more batteries in order to increase the ship's range.
Again, I mean no offense, this is meant to be helpful. Please take it as constructive criticism.
Curious. You think I should release the later Mk. III, etc.?
