Foster Yeoman Quarries

In 1985 Foster Yeoman acquired 4 North American 3600 hp locos from General Motors to haul loads from its Merehead quarry in Wiltshire to stone terminals in the South East of England. They were designated BR Class 59 (001 - 004). FY were the first private operator to run its own trains on the BR network, although they used BR drivers.
