Pines Express

Battle of Britain Class 34051 "Winston Churchill" in its BR Southern Region livery, hauling the PInes Express which used to run from Manchester in the north of England to Bournemouth and Poole on the South Coast - a popular route for holidaymakers escaping the fogs and smogs of the north(!). The route from Bournemouth to Poole took it on a causeway across Poole Harbour which, as a kid, I could view from my bedroom window. Poole to Bournemouth is a steep incline, so the Pines Express was usually double-headed for this section of the journey. Saw "Winnie" many times at Bournemouth West in my train-spotting days. Happy times....!
