描述
I have made a skill tree that can chosen instead of the current one, drawing directly from the 6th edition Runelords in tabletop.
Because balance is important to me I have used the exact same damage template of existing spells. Dwarf's dont use winds of magic but have a limited number of uses on each rune. As they skill up and become more powerful , the Runelord can use spells additional times and with less cooldown before the next. A fully levelled Runelord is like the equivalent of a magic user with 100 winds of magic (much less than legendary caster lords and powerful casters like slann and high Elf, but about the same as a levelled up hero or wizard lord from for example bretonnia or greenskins)


Full Spell List

Rune of Water: (Base ability:Chillblade)
Rune of Fire: (Base ability:Firestorm)
Rune of Earth: (Base ability:Crack's call)
Rune of Air: (Base ability:Urannon's thunderbolt upgraded)
Rune of Doom: Weapon damage and cause fear buff

Rune of Fire, Earth and Air have the same stats as the spell equivalent

Rune of Doom and rune of Water have attributes equal to other abilities in the game.


The purpose of this mod is to allow you to build an aggressive and destructive Runelord instead of a Defensive buffer (choosing one skill tree will lock out the other).

All these spells come from the 6th Edition Armybook from the Dwarfs.

I have tried to keep this very balanced and just provide an alternative build instead of creating something overpowered.

This mod is now obsolete and I won't continue it. Would I like for the new runelords to have more offensive spells? Yes of course. Thorek has most because of his items and I would like it if other Runelords had similar arsenal. I think the best way to achieve it would be to add weapons and items that give this which can be crafted.

This is not something I plan to make though.

It seems that CA has added good runes, except they are bounded to items/specific character.

Thorek's special hammer lighting - air
Beard Rings of Grimnir - really cool fire
Blessed Pick of Grungni - earth
Lost Gifts of Valaya - water? healing?

The sad thing is this is bounded to items, so only one lord have access to them. On top of that, most is only accessible in Thorek's campaign. May i suggest to make them accessible to all runelords?

Like, an ordinary runelord can only have access to either the normal rune system - aka the wrath and ruin, steel etc. or the flashy elemental based ones. Only thorek campaign can have access to both (through items)

Initial previews of the next patch suggest that a major dwarf rework is incoming, which will include a redo of how rune magic works. May have an impact on this.

ayy it was time runelords became something useful. The vanilla tree is absolute garbage

@Cold: I don't use SFO any more, so I can't speak to newer versions, but back in April 2020 it worked with SFO just fine, with the caveat that these spell effects are based on vanilla balance.

@Trebor: (2/2) That being said: In so far as suggestions go, 3 points:
-it would be nice to have an offensive rune casting skill line choice on Runesmiths too (possibly lesser in power than Rune Lords' version, and definitely locking out the buff line if selected).

-You may also want to look over the game's spell balance overall, and see if they need to be adjusted in line with changes since this was last updated in 2018.

-Possibly most critically, an open request to port it to TW3 when that arrives.

@Trebor: (1/2) That's a bit of a difficult question. As far as I can tell from the user end, its still working as intended. It's compatible with JR's Old World skills, which is the mod I'd be most concerned about conflicting with this. I've successfully used it on Rune Lords with both Kraka Drak and Greybeard's Prospectors, too.

Broadly, I am happy to have access to an on-theme offensive caster skill set for Dwarves. I am quite satisfied in that it still works and has not been taken down.
