描述

The Universal Cargo Unit or UCU is my personal standard cargo unit. I use it with all of my ships.

The idea behind the UCU is as simple as realistic. To have a cargo unit that is alwas the same size, so you can pick up and transport it with a lot of ships and vehicles. Just like the containers on nowadays naval cargo-ships.

I have some ships that work with the UCUs

- Grasshopper Cargo Lifter (can pick up 1 UCU)
- Packhorse Transporter (can transport 4 UCUs)
- Hercules Freighter (10 UCUs)
- Elephant Freighter (16 UCUs)

LOADOUT

- 10 large cargo containers (no need to explain)

- 1 connector at the top: This connector is not connected to the UCU's conveyor systems. It is only for connecting with the ship that is supposed to transport the UCU. (and to access the UCU's terminal)

- 1 connector at the bottom: This is the connector for loading and unloading the UCU.

- 4 landing gears (grouped): to make sure, your UCU doesn't fly away or fall over when not connected to another grid.

- artificial mass: you can activate it before dropping the UCU, so it will find it's way to the platform instead of hovering in space.
(Caution: artifical mass can cause the transporting ship to move downward. You should turn it of as soon as it reaches the ship. This problem doesn't occur on static platforms and stations)

- battery, so the UCU is always powered (it doesn't need much energy)

- small script that deactivates the UCU's beacon as soon as the UCU is beeing connected to another ship. I made this script because it's annoying to fly around with the Elephant freighter and having 16 beacons visible all the time.

HOW TO USE

- you can pick up the UCU with every ship that has a connector, as long as the connector sticks out of the ship enough.
- The UCU has 4 colored buttons on each side:
--> red button: unlock landing gears
--> green button: lock landing gears
--> blue button: switch lock of bottom connector
--> yellow button: turn artificial mass on/off

I can see my concept working better in a 2x2 layout with a bigger truck.

Good idea! Nice to see that people are still using my UCU's. But yes, the smaller ones are way more usable. The larger ones tend to be too heavy for most ship designs.

I managed to build a land trailer that "sort of" works with these cargo units. It's more reliable with the smaller units.

Thanks man. I appreciate your hard work to make cargo better in game. I wonder if you know of any mods that turn SE into a cargo ship sim at all? Or would this be something I would need to make in a scenario? Thanks again.

Hi,
they are regular blueprints. They should be listet in your blueprint list not in your mod list. :-)

Hi there, this doesn't show in my mod list in game, am I doing something wrong? It would be great if someone created a basic 'delivery' mod that sets simple 'bring cargo from point A - to point B', I wonder if someone has already made one? Thanks.

@Elafis I just uploaded an Oxygen version. Thank you for the idea. I will experiment with a battery box, too.
