There were also problems with disguising poisoned food so other players won't notice, but game tries to be helpful to modders and show item's subtype ID in the description, which is always unique, so it would be hard to trick players into eating poisoned food. Well, unless they're distracted
Now we just need like Skyrim where you can kill a whole tavern of NPCs with a poisoned apple.
