Ultima Ratio Patriarum (The Last Argument of Nations)

Current Version: 1.19 compatible with Hearts of Iron 1.10

From the creators of the popular Veritas et Fortitudo mod (Europa Universails IV), the same attention to historical detail, innovative mechanics, and in-depth gameplay are brought to Hearts of Iron IV in Ultima Ratio Patriarum!

Major Features:
* Military Rebalance: Changes to combat width both for combat (72+36) and for many battalions (artillery/AT/AA) results in a typical historical infantry division (3x3) being ideal at 18width with an inability to stack so much artillery (12 guns to a battalion and reduced the grid to 4x4 meaning with 9 infantry you can only get the equivalent guns of 2.33 vanilla artillery battalions) that it becomes unreasonable. Additional equipments added for differing sizes of artillery and the separation of automatic weapons as a separate category of infantry weapons allows more historically accurate divisions without becoming overly complicated for the player.

* Revolutions: when staging a coup in a colony state, an independent nation breaks off from the parent country and will fight for independence (this takes place instead of a civil war, but depending on the size the civil war would have been it may spawn multiple nations). Particularly useful across Africa, in south-east Asia, or in the Soviet Union. Regular coups can still be staged if you do so in core states of a country.

* Arms Trading: A mechanic through which armaments (except for ships) can be bought and sold between nations complete with a unique interface. As of version 1.12, all nations can sell as well as buy on the global market (previously only starting major nations could sell due to interface limitations).

* Negotiated Peace: (Multiplayer Only; Ai doesn't use it yet) Offer and accept a negotiated surrender from your opponent to get out of the never-ending war. No longer must everything result in unconditional surrender!

* Increased Historical Flavour: Through adjustments to Paradox focus trees, events, and decisions as well as the addition of our own the historical immersion of the game is increased.

* We had cores for over twenty-five nations added to the game, however Paradox added many of the same in their 1.6 update so now we are left with the following:
**Vichy (so that it can remain properly neutral for a portion of the war)
**Indochina (a colony of France and then Vichy; facilitates the Franco-Thai war without involviing foreign powers)
**Six more Chinese warlords (Xikang, Sichuan, Guangdong, Shandong, Thirty-Sixth Division/Tungangistan, North-East Army/Xi'an) to represent the region's turmoil in a more accurate manner

Expanded Focus Tree:
*Italy: Alternative political/foreign policy options including monarchist, democratic, and communist paths as well as an alternative Fascist path to support Austria against Germany.

*Soviet Union: Alternative paths including Trotskyite, democratic, and a restoration of the empire under the last remaining relatives of the Tsar

Focus Trees Added:
*Brazil: A full national focus tree for Brazil highlighting the conflicts of the Estado Novo regime and Brazil's importance to the Allied cause as a source of rubber after the fall of Malaysia

*Egypt: The nation is now properly free with a unique focus tree and the ability to make their historical attempt at neutrality in World War II (as well as alternative paths for a player to choose).

*Mexico: A full national focus tree for Mexico offers opportunites to join one of the factions as well as to take historical actions such as nationalising the oil fields owned by Anglo-Dutch interests.

*Spain: A full national focus tree for Spain; take advantage of focuses specific to the civil war (on either side) and use the benefits of them to shift the war to your advantage. An alternate path to avoid the civil war and let democracy rule the day is also available as well as an option for the monarchists to assume preeminence on the nationalist side and restore a Bourbon or Carlist king.

*Sweden: A full national focus tree with alternative paths

*Greece: A full national focus tree with paths to join the various factions or strike out on your own to restore Greece to it's rightful glory.

*Bulgaria: A full national focus tree with options to seek alliance with the various major powers or alternatively a South-Slavic Union with Yugoslavia

*Turkey: A full national focus tree, Turkey is locked into it's neutral political status as long as Ataturk lives. Once he's gone, however, political change comes swiftly.

*Siam: A full national focus tree with options to restore the monarchy, stoke communist activity in neighbouring Indochina, or involve yourself in the wars in China.

*Mongolia: A full national focus tree with paths to function as effectively a Soviet puppet, a more equal partner in communism, or embrace nationalism at the expense of Soviet relations.

*Iran: In 1936, most of Iran's oil is controlled by the British-run Anglo-Iranian oil corporation from which the national government derives only token profits. National focus tree features options for a fully monarchist, democratic, or communist regime as well as a historical path to maintain a moderate balance between the Shah and parliament. Side with one of the major powers in order to renegotiate your oil deals or gain military backing to nationalize them; alternatively Iran can pursue a local neutral faction with Turkey and Afghanistan.

*Iraq: Like Iran, Iraq's most profitable oil fields are controlled by Britain and the British enjoy unfettered military access courtesy of the 1930 treaty for Iraq's independence. Unlike most TfV nations which are locked into democracy if they 'go with Britain' Iraq is obliged to follow the British' lead under that option which could leave them with any type of government depending on Britain's focus choices. Abandoning Britain is also an option, leaving you a free hand to take whatever path you like.

*Nationalist China: Regardless of DLC you get our national focus tree for Nationalist China in order to help China perform and behave more historically in all variations of URP. Those with the DLC still get the amazing foreign support tree added in place of our more limited foreign support options.

Obsolete:
* Focus Choices: URP originally featured an event (when historical focus was turned off) to determine which path of a focus tree AI nations would take. Since the addition of a similar function in vanilla, we removed the event in favour of using the nicer UI of game rules that Paradox provided.
