[Fighter Blueprint] Hiigaran Bomber [Homeworld 2]

Hiigaran Bombers are fighter-class vessels used by the Hiigaran Navy in an anti-capital ship role. They are armed with a pair of heavy plasma bomb launchers - a refined version of the weapon used by the Kushan "Thunderbolt" Attack Bomber during the Homeworld War. These weapons fire slow, powerful projectiles that can easily melt through even the toughest capital ship armor. A single squadron of bombers (usually comprised of 5) is enough to threaten a frigate, while multiple squadrons can direct fire at vulnerable areas of super-capital ships to cripple and then whittle away at them.

Naturally, due to the Bomber's powerful armament, it is a high-value target for enemy fighter defenses. The Hiigaran Navy often deploys Bomber wings with an escort of Hiigaran Interceptors to protect them, as their powerful plasma bombs are too slow for Bombers to defend themselves against other strike craft.

During the war between the Hiigarans and the Vaygr, Bombers were frequently tasked with hitting large Vaygr targets, such as Carriers or Battlecruisers. Vaygr Battlecruisers in particular were high priority targets for Bombers, as the devastating forward-mounted Vaygr Trinity Cannon could be rendered useless if some well-placed plasma bombs could knock out the cruiser's maneuvering drives.
